Domain Name Lifecycle Policy

Procedures and guidelines for managing the lifecycle of Iraqi domain names, including registration, renewal, recovery, and deletion.

1. Introduction

This policy defines the procedures and guidelines for managing the lifecycle of Iraqi domain names under the .iq ccTLD, including registration, renewal, recovery, and deletion throughout the domain lifecycle. Government domains are excluded from this policy.


** 2. Objective. **

This policy aims to provide a transparent, consistent, and effective framework for domain name management in compliance with ICANN standards and .iq requirements.


3. Definitions

Lifecycle:
The automated process in the registration system through which domain names transition between different statuses until deletion. Deleted Domains List:
The official list of domains removed from the registration system. Lifecycle Deletion:
The automated process of removing a domain from the registration system. Redemption Period:
The period during which a deleted domain can be restored.


4. Domain License Period

4.1 Registration and Activation

  • Registration requests are accepted through accredited registrars.
  • The domain remains On Hold until registry approval.
  • After approval, the domain becomes active and the registration period begins.
  • Domains registered directly by the registry are activated immediately.
  • Standard registration period: 1 year up to 10 years.

4.2 Fee Calculation

  • Fees are calculated annually from the registration date.
  • Fees cannot be prorated.

4.3 Expiry Notification

  • Registrars must notify registrants at least 15 working days before expiration.

5. Expiry and Redemption Period

5.1 After Expiry

Stage 1

  • Domain changes from Active to Expired – Suspended.
  • Duration: 48 hours.
  • Expiry notice page is displayed. Stage 2
  • After 3 days, the domain enters the Redemption Period.
  • The registrant may restore the domain.

5.2 Redemption Fees

Restoration requires:

  • Renewal fee
  • Redemption penalty of 50% of the domain price

5.3 Final Deletion

  • If not restored within 60 days, the domain is deleted and becomes available.

6. Domain Deletion by Registrant Request

When deletion is requested:

  1. Status changes to Pending Delete.
  2. DNS records are removed.
  3. Update and transfer are blocked.
  4. Deletion can be canceled within 30 calendar days.
  5. After 30 days, the domain is permanently deleted.

7. Policy Review and Updates

  • This policy will be reviewed periodically for effectiveness and ICANN compliance.
  • The registry reserves the right to update the policy with appropriate notice.

8. Disputes and Complaints

Any disputes or complaints arising from this policy are subject to the registry’s dispute resolution policy.
